Bag-in-Bag !

Malls, these days reflect life in its entirety ! There are many aspects of life that come alive here. Perhaps representative of ‘progress’ !

This is one.

A bag to house your hand bag. As you enter the mall, this big see-through bag is given, if you are carrying a handbag ! This bag, to house that bag. The handbag !

Assuming ofcourse, that you don’t want to hand over your handbag at the security counter. Perhaps because it contains some secret potion or diamonds. Or perhaps you have invested all the money to be seen carrying this handbag around !

Ofcourse, mall security has had enough of fancy people walk in with fancier bags and respectfully walk out with the reams of toilet roll and tissue paper. Perhaps with the odd bits of titanium or Gold or Platinum or whatever…tucked in somewhere !

They aren’t going to be enthused with the prospect of one more handbag undoing their annual bonus !!

Enter this bag.

It is transparent. It a lock, the keys of which are with the cashier ! It holds your handbag , for the world to see! Although, you cant ‘access’ contents of the handbag, but you can take comfort in the fact that you still are carrying it with you !

When through with all the shopping, the cashiers ‘unlock’ the transparent bag and delivers your handbag back to you !

Of course, that’s how you have access to your credit cards and wads of cash !! We are progressing, as mankind. Aren’t we ?

We first walked about with just leaves on us. Considering how much clothes are on in some of the Fashion shows, we are not too far from where we started. In some cases we have bettered that too.

Some years ago, the plain and transparent polythene bag was just about OK. I guess we are getting back there ! Step by step !

Perhaps bag by bag !

  1. Interesting post on bag and house bag. 🙂 Enjoyed it. 🙂

  2. I wonder what else paranoia will make us do? We have all this fancy gimmicks at fancy malls but our railway stations and markets are free-for-all-terrorists. But then, rich people never go there, right?!

  3. Makes you think. Suspicion piggybacks on perceived prosperity.

When I walk into a Mall, its free. When I drive in, I pay for the parking. I’m assumed to be a closet kleptomaniac till proven otherwise, and the plastic stuff is unlocked at the checkout counter.

A child in someone’s arms at the local fruit vendor keeps pointing to an orange, and the vendor , along with your change, hands the kid an orange , just like that.

Dont know whether we are progressing or regressing. Earlier we wore leaves. We may now need those originating from figs…..

like always, interesting observation and a write up 🙂

Isnt it a win-win situation for both? You get to still flaunt your expensive bag; the security is not compromised!!

After reading this, I am imagining myself inside a bunny suit provided by mall security!!!

  6. Inder says:

cool. i think that is a good idea…

  7. Idea promoted by Indian Plastic bag Makers association.

  8. Neha says:

I have seen it at two places – Reliance fresh and D-mart..but never thought of it as bag-in-bag 🙂

    interesting indeed 🙂

  9. Kevin says:

Hmmm… This is almost like a bag arrest (as opposed to house arrest).

wish the malls had a lock see through bag to put the kids in! I would have loved that, they are such a menace in the malls.. but the bag in a bag concept has not come in here still..we still happily carry our hand bags with us in the malls..

Ugich Konitari : “Suspicion piggybacks on perceived prosperity. ” Lovely ! Percieved prosperity. The ones that travel in the big cars wtih small hearts !

And the local vendors big heart that outdoes all that a mall can every possibly do !

    yes.. yess ! figs !

    Nu : Thanks ! 🙂

insignia : Atleast thats the idea ! Bunny suit !?!!? LOL ! Well, you are giving them ideas for sure !

The Holy Lama : I wonder about that !!!

    Neha : Well, it is a bag-in-bag ! isnt it !?!
    🙂

Kevin : Bag arresst ! Well, thats an interesting concept ! I wonder if it will come in handly for the typical family man !

Sujata : I guess India’s ‘leadership role’ in many spheres extends to mall managament now ! And some malls here have a exclusive kids play area. Where the kids play under the eye of a baby sitter !

    bodaat : Well..you can introduce this somewhere ! 🙂

    Sorcerer : 🙂

At least they don’t insist that we put our hands in some kind of plastic bag.. for security reasons of course! But as always, we are at fault. Why are we taken in by those fancy malls when almost everything is available with vendors and small shops? I guess the aura of mall shopping is slowly diminishing. At least I hope so…

  15. Jeevan says:

The property is ours, but not in use.

Nice two kavi, both the idea and your post! 🙂

  16. Ha ha! Great post!

Was this here in Mumbai? I’ve never had this experience in a mall! 🙂

  17. radha says:

Have never seen it here. Crazy! The supermarket here staples the shopping bag that you might bring in with you, but let your handbags in.
